OPENING OF THE SOAI RAP NAVIGATION CHANNEL, FORWARD THE EAST SEA

On the morning of January 9, 2008, Ho Chi Minh City officially put the Soai Rap channel into operation after dredging for more than one year.

Over the past 100 years, Ho Chi Minh City has been using only the Long Tau channel in order to accommodate vessels to call at Sai Gon Port. Whereas, the width of the Soai Rap channel is wider than the width of the Long Tau channel, but many parts of river are shallow, obstructing vessels’ navigation. With economic development, it is said that “awakening” the Soai Rap river to open the second channel is necessary.
